Every wedding photographer has those quiet spots they return to time and again. At Glewstone Court, for me, it is the field sitting just beside the main house.

Looking Beyond the Obvious

To the casual observer, it might look like a simple patch of land next to the grounds. Most people walk right past it or focus entirely on the formal gardens.

But when you spend years working at the same venue, you learn how to look beyond the obvious features. You start to understand how a single piece of ground shifts, changes, and opens up completely different possibilities depending on the season, the weather, and the light.

Over the past few years, this one field has given me an incredible range of portraits, each looking like a completely different location.

A Different View in Every Season

In the high heat of summer, it becomes a brilliant backdrop of golden grass and dried wild growth. The sun sits low over the crest of the hill, giving us that warm, backlit glow where couples can just breathe and enjoy a few minutes away from the reception.

A few months earlier, that exact same spot is filled with lush wildflowers and tall thistles, ideal for lifting a bride up into a frame full of texture and movement.

When the seasons turn and the weather gets heavier, the mood transforms entirely. The dry summer grass gives way to moody, dark skies and bare, dormant brush.

Instead of soft golden light, you get dramatic contrasts, rich monochrome tones, and sweeping views of the Herefordshire countryside under overcast skies.

A quiet walk through the exact same patch of ground in winter feels worlds away from a summer golden hour walk.

Knowing a Venue Inside and Out

That is the real advantage of knowing a venue inside and out.

It is not just about knowing where the main lawn is; it is about knowing how to read the landscape as the year turns. It allows us to find quiet, unscripted moments in places that others might walk straight past, giving each couple something that feels entirely unique to their day.
